The Eigth Page: maybe

When I was a kid I was getting out of the car with
a balloon and one of those yard sticks the bank gave out at the fair,
and my balloon slipped off my wrist (my mother
had tied it there "If you lose this one you won't get another")
and I stood there watching
it float up into the sky, wondering what
what would happen when I couldn't see it anymore
Most things I lost I didn't get another,
(my gameboy, my grandfather's ring, my virginity)
but my mother never warned me that losing time
would be so much like seeing that balloon go
and I can't do a fucking thing but stand here
and watch it float away
and I still don't know what will happen
when I can't see it anymore.
