downtown: all
the things that you heard
only happened in the past
in times of war
and the Dark Ages.

I heard about some
guys from Fishtown
beat a man to death, and
I saw some of them beat a girl.

But that's ok, because in my city
there are so many chances
to talk and to catch someones
sneeze in your throat.
Walking happens so close
that sometimes I realize

My face had just been inches
from the faces of many women,
beautiful women.
They didn't notice,
and I didn't notice,
and I wonder if
,inches away,
I kissed one
as fast as it takes
to miss the subway,
that fast,
would she notice?
