“Angelica”

I trimmed her hair today
It was getting a little long
After, we jumped around in the stiff, chartreuse field
It hissed in the wind and we both got low
So neither the farmer in his barn nor the hunters lurking in the trees
Would confuse us for deer or some other hunted animal
And with our bellies in the dirt she looked at me like,
“What will we do now?”
Her eyes are enormous, almost too much so
I’d even say that she is the type where she is so absurd looking
That she’s just adorable as a result
But I wouldn’t dream of saying it around her
I admire her far too much to embarrass her in that way
She’s simple, grateful, free-spirited
She’ll take anything she gets and love you for it
So I love her for that
My family too
Honestly, anyone who meets her
Simply falls in love
I ran my hand through her freshly trimmed beard
She examined my palm with her cold nose
“Ange,” I told her, “the world just ain’t enough for you.”
